SOMETIMES ENGLISH CAN BE SO DIFFICULT
Whoever started the English language was quite confused himself. There are so many complications that could easily have been avoided like the word ‘fourty’ and the word ‘wont’.
Here was something that happened to me in first grade, I believe. Wait, might have been later. I'm not sure, but let's just say it was first.
Mrs. Eugene: Glenn, what is the contraction for "can not"?
Me: Can't.
Mrs. Eugene: Very good. And for "do not"?
Me: Don't.
Mrs. Eugene: Correct. And "will not"?
Me: Willn't.
Mrs. Eugene: (laughs) No. *looks around* Anyone else?
Someone else: Won't.
Me: That's fucking bullshit! It should be willn't. What the fuck is won't? Where the hell did you just pull that word out of? Sometimes I just hate the guy who invented English. ( Is invented the right word for that ) see it’s confused me so much already.

English has always had a history of debates over spellings, wuld u believe dat?
and this reminds me of 1984...i dunno if u've read it...they were inventing a new language of their own...and the language was one of a kind i must say!
And don't forget the difference in the pronunciation of 'do', 'to' and 'no'.
That's an insult to our intelligence. It stifles common sense and logic. I'm sure it was deliberate. What do we tell people/kids who are trying to learn the language. "I'm sorry but English is a ridiculous language. There's no reason for the difference in pronunciation. Just leave your common sense behind and proceed thru rote learning alone".
g.c.inxs: thanks.
c_c : Thoughtpolice, Political Totalitarianism and Big Brother ??? im so confused already.
Karen : ..and i thought i was the only one who thought that way.
Ella : Im happy being 'glenn confused'.LOL.
@ella
since u r doing all the stuff u r doing in liguistics u r ur best judge...
in 1984 they had this language devised that had "Good" and "plusgood" nothing like bad..
and "love" and "unlove"..no such thing as hate...
their motive was very different from putting our Glenn at ease with spellings n stuff...
but the post jus reminded me of dat...
and just to add to the mixed ramblings...
I LOVE ENGLISH! Nothing like it exists. It's so alive, I think it's capable of producing little baby words that grow into big words all by themselves. And c'mon, anything that can reproduce and spread must be alive right?
[yes folks... I need sleep and sanity. One always produces the other. Don't worry about me...]
